VF Corporation — one of the world’s largest apparel and footwear companies — partnered with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) in 2020 to enhance recruitment policies and migrant workers’ rights in garment and footwear supply chains in South-East Asia. Structured under IOM’s CREST (Corporate Responsibility for Eliminating Slavery and Trafficking) initiative, the partnership engages with labour recruiters within the VF supply chain to enhance ethical recruitment of migrant workers and uphold the ‘employer pays principle’ to prevent workers from incurring recruitment debt. By April 2021, as part of this project, VF has updated their audit scope (including data collection requirements concerning migrant workers) and formalized a set of guidelines for the ethical and responsible recruitment of migrant workers.
