Making Road-Based Freight Transport Safer for Cyclist and Pedestrians

UK-based building materials company CEMEX has taken proactive safety measures to ensure the transportation of its goods and materials does not negatively impact local communities, and in particular cyclists and pedestrians. CEMEX took a multi-pronged approach to road safety to keep their own employees and contractors safe, as well as to protect the safety of other road users. Actions included adapting large vehicles and heavy goods vehicles to reduce blind spots while driving or turning, introducing cameras and sensors to vehicles to detect the presence of pedestrians or cyclists, and providing enhanced driver training. CEMEX has also led campaigns throughout the UK on road safety for cyclists and pedestrians, educating over 7,000 cyclists on road safety through education initiatives.
